When you receive a citation, you have several options available to resolve your case.  These options vary depending on many different factors which include the type of violation, severity of the charge, age of the defendant, etc.

On the citation, there will is a court appearance date and time listed.  You must resolve your case with the Court on or before this date to avoid warrants for your arrest being issued, as well as additional charges.  The following are the options available to you:

PLEAD NO CONTEST OR GUILTY AND PAY THE FINE

? In Person:  You may appear at the Farmersville Municipal Court Office during normal business hours, Monday through Friday to pay your fine.
? By Mail:  Enter your plea, sign and date the plea form on the reverse side of your citation, and mail it to the Municipal Court with a check or money order. Please see the Fines Schedule to determine the amount you should remit for payment.  To avoid additional fees for late payment, the payment must be postmarked on or before the court appearance date listed.
? By Phone:  The court accepts Visa or Mastercard by phone during normal business hours.  Please note that when you make a voluntary payment by phone, a No Contest plea will be entered and you forfeit any right to request a Driving Safety Course or a Deferred Disposition.  (A 5% transaction fee will be applied when paying by credit/debit card).

PLEAD NOT GUILTY AND REQUEST A TRIAL

If you wish to enter a plea of Not Guilty, you and/or your attorney must notify the Court of your intentions on or before the court appearance date listed on the citation. Court hearings cannot be scheduled by telephone, and a plea of Not Guilty must be made in writing. If you plead Not Guilty, the Court will schedule a jury trial unless you waive that right.  If you do, a Non-Jury Trial will be scheduled, and you will be notified by mail of your trial date.  If  you request a Jury Trial, you will be required to attend a mandatory Pre-Trial Hearing.

? In Person ? Appear in person to enter your plea.  After you have entered a plea to the Judge, a Pre-Trial Hearing date will be set.
? By Mail ? You may also enter a plea of Not Guilty by mail. To do so, you must send notice advising the Court of your Not Guilty plea and whether you request a Non-Jury Trial or a Jury Trial.  You must provide the Court with your correct mailing address.  The following documents must be included with your notice:
1. Copy of your Driver?s License
2. Copy of the Citation

Your plea by mail cannot be processed without these documents. Once received, the Court will set a trial date and notify you by mail.

PLEASE NOTE: If you plead Not Guilty and you are found guilty at trial, the Deferred Disposition and  Driving Safety Course options are no longer available.

REQUEST A DRIVING SAFETY COURSE (DSC)

You may be eligible to have the charge dismissed by successfully completing a Driving Safety Course (or a Motorcycle Operator Training Course if you were operating a motorcycle at the time you received the citation). To protect this right, you must make a request to the Court on or before the court appearance date listed on your citation.

You are not eligible for a Driving Safety Course if you have taken a course within the past twelve (12) months, or if you hold a Commercial Driver?s License (CDL).

For more information and forms, please refer to the Driving Safety Course link.

REQUEST DEFERRED DISPOSITION

You may be eligible to have the charge dismissed upon successful completion of a Deferred Disposition.  This option is offered solely by the discretion of the Court and a request must be made prior to the court appearance date on your citation.
