The Texas Main Street Program is among the most successful downtown revitalization programs in the nation.Farmersville has been a Texas Main Street city since the year 2000. The purpose of Farmersville Main Street is to encourage downtown revitalization within the context of historic preservation.
Downtown Farmersville is an area of national historic importance, and has been listed on the
National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Since its inception in 1981, the Texas Main Street Program has helped generate approximately $2.4 billion in reinvestment in Texas downtowns and urban neighborhood commercial districts, created more than 27,000 jobs, and established more than 7,000 new businesses. Mission Statement:
Farmersville Main Street Program's overall purpose is to encourage downtown revitalization within the context of historical preservation. Through careful planning and the use of the National Main Street's Four Point Approach of design, economic restructuring, promotion and organization, historic downtown Farmersville will remain a vibrant civic gathering place for all to enjoy by improving public spaces and health/recreation activities, increasing business activity, and expanding heritage tourism programs through business development and retention efforts, physical improvements, historic preservation ,and promotional events.

As a Main Street America™ Accredited program, Farmersville, Texas is a recognized leading program among the national network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities who share both a commitment to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development. All Main Street America™ Accredited programs meet a set of National Accreditation Standards of Performance as outlined by the National Main Street Center.
